Professional Days 2026 at the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence

The Festival d’Aix-en-Provence brought together artists, cultural professionals and international partners for three days of encounters, discussions and exchange, creating a space to reflect on contemporary opera, artistic creation and the future of the sector.

The 2026 Professional Days opened on 6 July with a Midi du Festival dedicated to the Academy’s Libretto Residency. The round table explored the role of the libretto in opera today, from adapting literary traditions and developing new narratives to imagining dramaturgies for contemporary audiences.

On 7 July, the Opera Makers encounters created opportunities for international artists and professionals to meet and exchange around their practices. The programme continued with conversations addressing artistic and societal questions, strengthening connections between creators and professionals from across the sector.

The final day, 8 July, was dedicated to the national Accord majeur meetings. Through round tables, debates and professional exchanges, participants reflected on the future of public cultural service and the role cultural organisations can play within a changing social and political environment.

Across the three days, the Professional Days provided a platform for dialogue, networking and knowledge-sharing, connecting different generations and perspectives while encouraging new conversations about how opera can continue to evolve.
